light emitting diodes (leds)

Introduction:

A Light Emitting Diode (LED) light source is a semiconductor. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are used as indicator lamps in many devices, and are increasingly used for lighting. Introduced as an electronic component in the handy LED 1962early emitted low intensity red light, but modern versions are available in the entire visible wavelength, ultraviolet and infrared brightness very high.

The Light Emitting Diode (LED) is based on semiconductor diode. When a diode is forward biased (on), the electrons are able to recombine with holes within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons. This effect is called electroluminescence and color of light (corresponding to the photon energy) is determined by the energy gap of the semiconductor. A Light Emitting Diode (LED) is usually small in area (less than 1 mm2), and integrated optical components are used in its form of radiation pattern and contribute to a reflection.

The light emitting diodes(LEDs) have many advantages over incandescent light sources including low power consumption, longer life, improved robustness, small size, faster switching and greater endurance and expectations. However, they are relatively expensive and require more precise current and thermal management compared to traditional light sources. Current LED products for general illumination, are more expensive to buy fluorescent lamp sources comparable production.

Light emitting diodes also enjoy the use in different applications as substitutes for traditional light sources in automobiles and light signals in traffic. The compact size of LED has enabled a new text and video displays and sensors to be developed, while their high rates of switching are useful in advanced communications technology.

Practical applications of leds:

The light emitting diodes are often used for replacing incandescent indicators, the 7-segment displays, in expensive equipment, such as laboratory and electronics test equipment, and later in such devices, TV, radio, telephone, calculator. These red light emitting diodes have enough to use only as an indicator, such as the light output was not bright enough to illuminate a room. Later, other colors generally available and appear in the apparatus and equipment. With LED technology, advanced materials, light output has been increasing the efficiency and reliability to an acceptable level. The invention and development of high-power white light-emitting used for lighting. Most of the LED in the regular T1 ¾ 5 mm and 3 mm T1 packages, but as more and more power, it has become increasingly necessary to clarify the extra calories in order to ensure reliability have adapted to more complex software package for effective heat dissipation. The state's most advanced suite of high power LED no resemblance early LED.
